Airborne 16 Brigade Families Day 16 July 2016
On Saturday 16 July we will hold the Airborne 16 Families’ Day. In the morning we plan to run a half marathon to raise funds for the Pegasus statue. There will be a 1 KM children’s race alongside the main event. In the afternoon we plan on having: A children’s fun fair, arena displays, historic and present military displays, pony ride, a fly past, welfare agency stands, a stage show and much more.
Airborne 16 RMAS Arnhem Room Unveiling July 2016
The Airborne Assault Museum is proud to support 16 Air Assault Brigade and The Parachute Regiment in facilitating the design and installation of graphic panels into the Arnhem Room at RMAS for an official opening in July 2016. The graphic panels will provide a day by day account of this epic operation and battle using high quality imagery from the archives, and link this epic stand with the modern ethos of the airborne soldier.
As well as the unveiling of The Arnhem Room, invited guests will be hosted for an evening at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Arnhem 14 – 19 September 2016
2016 will see Pegasus, the traditional emblem of British Airborne Forces, return to Arnhem. The commemorations will see the usual parachuting activity and memorial services being conducted, but in addition we will mark the return of Pegasus in a small ceremony to be led by the head Padre of 16 Air Assault Brigade. As work progresses towards the twinning of Oosterbeek with Colchester links between the towns will be deepened .
Bellerophon Astride Pegasus Statue Unveiling. Merville Barracks. Date TBC
On 25 November 2015 Pegasus replaced the Striking Eagle as the emblem of 16 Air Assault Brigade. To mark this a statue of Bellerophon astride Pegasus will be erected in front of the Brigade Headquarters in Merville Barracks.
